Book Cigarettes After Sex
Cigarettes After Sex is an American dream pop band founded by singer, songwriter and guitarist Greg Gonzalez in El Paso, Texas, in 2008. The project is known for slow, hazy, reverb-soaked songs about love, desire and romance, carried by Gonzalez's soft, androgynous voice, and its sound also draws on shoegaze, slowcore and indie rock. The band's first EP, I., was recorded in 2012 inside a stairwell at the University of Texas at El Paso, and its track "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby" grew into a sleeper hit through licensing and a fan upload that spread on YouTube around 2016. After moving to Brooklyn, they issued the single "Affection" in 2015 together with a cover of REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You". Signing with Partisan Records in 2016, they released "K." and "Apocalypse" ahead of their self-titled debut album, Cigarettes After Sex (2017), which drew warm reviews. The second album, Cry, arrived in 2019, and a third, X's, followed in July 2024. Live, the band builds a hushed, cinematic atmosphere with slow-burning arrangements that make large rooms feel intimate and dreamlike.
