Book The xx
The xx are a London indie trio whose hushed, minimalist sound won the Mercury Prize in 2010 for their debut album, xx. Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim started the band as fifteen-year-olds at Elliott School in Wandsworth, trading vocals over Croft's echoing guitar and Sim's bass, while Jamie Smith, known as Jamie xx, supplies the beats and production. Released on Young Turks in 2009, xx drew year-end raves from The Guardian and NME, and its songs "Crystalised," "Islands" and "Intro" turned up across film and television. The band played Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits in 2010 and earned three BRIT Award nominations the following year. Their second album, Coexist, reached the top five of the Billboard 200 in 2012. Smith's solo debut, In Colour, arrived in 2015, and the trio returned with I See You in 2017, led by the single "On Hold." Each member has since released solo work, including Croft's dance album Mid Air, Sim's Hideous Bastard and Smith's In Waves.
