Book Rufus Wainwright
Rufus Wainwright is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter and composer with three Grammy nominations whose work stretches from pop albums to opera. The son of folk musicians Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, he played weekly shows at Montreal's Cafe Sarajevo before signing with DreamWorks Records, and his self-titled 1998 debut won the Juno Award for Best Alternative Album and a GLAAD Media Award. Poses (2001), with "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk," was followed by Want One and Want Two, Release the Stars and Out of the Game. In 2006 he recreated Judy Garland's legendary 1961 Carnegie Hall concert song for song, then took the show to the London Palladium, the Paris Olympia and the Hollywood Bowl; the recording became Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall. He has written two operas, Prima Donna and Hadrian, and set Shakespeare's sonnets for a Robert Wilson theater piece, later recorded as Take All My Loves. His recording of "Hallelujah" appears on the Shrek soundtrack. Recent releases include Unfollow the Rules (2020), Folkocracy (2023) and Dream Requiem (2025). He has toured with Tori Amos and Sting and received GLAAD's Stephen F. Kolzak Award in 2008.
