Book Wilco
Wilco won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album with A Ghost Is Born, one of seven Grammy nominations, and was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame in 2021. The Chicago band grew out of the alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo in 1994, with singer and songwriter Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt as its founding core. Since 2004 the lineup has held steady with guitarist Nels Cline, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen and drummer Glenn Kotche. After the debut A.M. (1995), Being There and Summerteeth broadened its sound, and Wilco's three Mermaid Avenue albums with Billy Bragg set unrecorded Woody Guthrie lyrics to music. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002), released by Nonesuch after the band's previous label passed on it, became a landmark of 2000s rock. Sky Blue Sky, Wilco (The Album), The Whole Love, Star Wars, Schmilco and Ode to Joy followed, along with the double album Cruel Country (2022) and Cousin (2023), produced by Cate Le Bon. The band also curates its own Solid Sound festival in North Adams, Massachusetts. Wilco concerts are prized for Cline's adventurous guitar work and setlists that change from night to night.
