Book Steven Levitt
Steven Levitt is an American economist and co-author, with Stephen J. Dubner, of Freakonomics (2005), the book that brought economic thinking to everyday questions and became a New York Times bestseller. The pair followed it with SuperFreakonomics (2009), Think Like a Freak (2014) and When to Rob a Bank (2015). Levitt is a professor emeritus at the University of Chicago, where he held the title of William B. Ogden Distinguished Service Professor and led the Becker Friedman Institute for Research in Economics. In 2003 he received the John Bates Clark Medal, the American Economic Association honor given to a leading U.S. economist under 40, for his work on crime. He was elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society in 2004, and Time magazine put him on its 2006 list of 100 People Who Shape Our World. Levitt earned his economics degree summa cum laude at Harvard in 1989 and his PhD at MIT in 1994, and he co-edited the Journal of Political Economy until 2007. In 2009 he helped launch TGG Group, which advises businesses and philanthropies, and from 2020 to 2025 he hosted the podcast People I (Mostly) Admire.
