Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are the Italian designers behind Dolce & Gabbana, the fashion house they founded in 1985 in Legnano. The pair met in 1982 while both working for designer Giorgio Correggiari; Dolce, born in 1958 in Polizzi Generosa, Sicily, had been making his own clothes since the age of six, while Milan-born Gabbana, born in 1962, helped teach him the business side of fashion and how to sketch. In 1983 they opened a design consulting studio under the Dolce & Gabbana name, and in 1985 they showed their first women's collection in the New Talents section of Milan Fashion Week. Their first store opened in Milan the following year, and their Spring and Summer 1986 collection, Geometrissimo, was presented alongside other labels. Today the brand covers everything from couture and ready-to-wear to bags, accessories, beauty and scent, with its name licensed to Luxottica for eyewear. At the end of 2025 Gabbana left the chair role while continuing as co-creative director with Dolce. Together they bring four decades of Italian style, craftsmanship and creative partnership to any conversation about design.
