Randy Bachman is the Canadian guitarist, singer and songwriter behind some of classic rock's most enduring riffs. A Winnipeg native, he co-founded the band that became the Guess Who in the early 1960s and wrote much of its material, often with Burton Cummings. The group broke through internationally in 1969 with "These Eyes," and in 1970 "American Woman" went to No. 1 on the US Hot 100, a first for a Canadian band. Bachman then co-founded Bachman–Turner Overdrive, writing and singing the anthems "Takin' Care of Business" and "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet." His solo catalog runs from Axe (1970) and Survivor (1978) through Any Road (1992), Merge (1996), Jazz Thing (2004), Heavy Blues (2015) and By George - By Bachman: Songs Of George Harrison (2018). He also became a national radio voice hosting Vinyl Tap on CBC Radio. His honors include Officer of the Order of Canada, the Order of Manitoba, a Governor General's Performing Arts Award, a 2012 star on Canada's Walk of Fame and 2016 induction into the Musicians Hall of Fame.
