Book Ultravox
Ultravox are the London new wave band that helped shape synth-driven rock in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The group began in 1974, first as Tiger Lily, and released its early albums Ultravox! (1977), Ha! Ha! Ha! (1977) and Systems of Romance (1978) with John Foxx as frontman, building a reputation for edgy, experimental electronic rock. After Foxx went solo in 1979, Midge Ure joined keyboardist Billy Currie, bassist Chris Cross and drummer Warren Cann, and the band entered its most famous era. The album Vienna (1980) and its sweeping title track (1981) became their signature work, followed by Rage in Eden (1981), Quartet (1982), Lament (1984) and U-Vox (1986). Fan favorites include "Reap the Wild Wind" (1982), "Hymn" (1982) and "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes" (1984). The classic lineup reunited in 2008 for live shows and recorded the album Brilliant (2012), then appeared as special guests on a 2013 arena tour. Ultravox bring a dramatic mix of synthesizers, violin and soaring vocals to the stage, a sound that remains a cornerstone of 1980s electronic pop.
