DJ Maphorisa is a South African DJ, producer, singer and songwriter, born Themba Sekowe, who has become one of the leading figures in amapiano. His production blends house, gqom, amapiano and afropop, and he has worked with a global roster that includes Wizkid, Drake, Black Coffee, Major Lazer, Kabza De Small, Focalistic and Kwesta. He rose to stardom producing hits for other artists, among them Uhuru's "Y-Tjukuta," Busiswa's "Lahla," Professor's "Jezebel" and Shekinah's "Suited." After his time at Kalawa Jazmee Records he founded his own label, BlaqBoy Music. His 2018 single "Midnight Starring," with Moonchild Sanelly, DJ Tira and Busiswa, won the most-voted song honor at the Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards, and he earned two DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice nominations that year. With Kabza De Small he released Scorpion Kings and The Return of the Scorpion Kings in 2019, and in 2021 he joined Wizkid's Made in Lagos Tour as an opening act. Recent releases include Ngomoya, ROUGH DANCE and Kings Will Rise in 2025. His DJ sets are pure dance-floor fuel.
