Book Damien Rice
Damien Rice, born in 1973, is a singer-songwriter from Ireland who began his career in the 1990s fronting the rock band Juniper, which signed to Polygram Records in 1997 and released two singles, "The World Is Dead" and "Weatherman." After leaving in 1998, he worked on a farm in Tuscany and busked around Europe before returning to music as a solo artist. His debut album, O, came out in 2002 and earned the 2003 Shortlist Music Prize. He followed it with 9 in 2006 and My Favourite Faded Fantasy in 2014, three studio albums in all. Rice is known for intense, hushed songs that shift suddenly from whispers to roaring crescendos, with raw, aching vocals and acoustic guitar at their center. His shows are emotionally charged evenings that command silence from the audience.
