Book PJ Harvey
PJ Harvey is the only artist to win the Mercury Prize twice, taking it in 2001 for Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea and in 2011 for Let England Shake. The English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist began in 1988 with the band Automatic Dlamini, whose leader John Parish remains her longtime creative partner. In 1991 she formed the PJ Harvey trio, which released Dry (1992) and Rid of Me (1993) before she carried on alone. Ten more studio albums followed, from To Bring You My Love and Is This Desire? through Uh Huh Her, White Chalk, The Hope Six Demolition Project and I Inside the Old Year Dying in 2023, with collaborators including Parish, Rob Ellis, Mick Harvey, Eric Drew Feldman and producer Flood. Her recognition extends to eight Grammy nominations, a BAFTA Award, two additional Mercury shortlistings and eight Brit nominations. Rolling Stone gave her Best New Artist and Best Singer Songwriter honors for 1992 and named her Artist of the Year for 1995, and the NME Awards recognized her Outstanding Contribution to Music. She was appointed MBE in the 2013 Birthday Honours.
