Book Broken Bells
Broken Bells is an indie rock project formed by producer Brian Burton, who records as Danger Mouse, together with James Mercer, vocalist and guitarist for The Shins. The two met at the Roskilde Festival in 2004 and admired each other's work, and by March 2008 they were recording in secret at Burton's Los Angeles studio. Before the group existed they had worked together on "Insane Lullaby" from Dark Night of the Soul, and the project was announced in September 2009. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 2010, followed by the Meyrin Fields EP in 2011, After the Disco in 2014 and Into the Blue in 2022. The duo has received a Grammy nomination. Burton and Mercer write and record as a pair, and live they add Dan Elkan and Jon Sortland, delivering a melodic, experimental sound that blends Mercer's vocals with Burton's studio-minded production.
