Photek is the artist name of Rupert Parkes, a British DJ, producer and screen composer from St Albans, England, now based in Los Angeles. He first played tenor saxophone before shifting to composition and sequencers, and began releasing jungle and drum and bass in 1993 under a string of aliases. His first record as Photek, Touching Down... Planet Photek, came out in 1994 on his own label, and the 1995 Natural Born Killa EP for Goldie's Metalheadz became his breakthrough. He also contributed to the Wipeout 2097 game soundtrack. Photek later built a major career in film and television, with music in Blade in 1998, a score for Gang Related with director Allen Hughes, and the score for How to Get Away with Murder. He earned three straight Grammy nominations for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical, for his remixes of Daft Punk's "End of Line" from Tron: Legacy, Moby's "Lie Down in Darkness" and "One Love/People Get Ready." Behind the decks, Photek offers deep, precise electronic sets shaped by decades of drum and bass innovation.
