Book Tim Hecker

Tim Hecker is the Canadian electronic musician, composer and sound artist whose albums Harmony in Ultraviolet (2006), Ravedeath, 1972 (2011) and Virgins (2013) are considered landmarks of modern ambient music. Born in Vancouver to two art teachers, he played in rock bands in high school before turning to a sampler and solo work. He relocated to Montreal in 1998 for studies at Concordia and first released techno under the name Jetone. In 2001 he began recording under his own name with Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again, followed by Radio Amor and Mirages, then moved to Kranky for Harmony in Ultraviolet. Ravedeath, 1972 was built partly from pipe organ recordings made in a Reykjavík church, and later albums Love Streams, Konoyo and Anoyo, the last two recorded with a Japanese gagaku ensemble in Tokyo, extended his sound further. No Highs arrived in 2023. His collaborators include Ben Frost, Arca and Daniel Lopatin, and he has composed scores for films including Infinity Pool. His live performances, often staged in darkness at high volume, immerse audiences in dense, shifting sound.
