Book Ben Frost
Ben Frost is a Melbourne-born composer, producer, sound designer and director who has made Reykjavík, Iceland his home base since 2005. His instrumental, experimental work pulls from classical minimalism as much as from punk and black metal, producing music that is both meticulous and physically overwhelming. Early guitar-driven records such as Steel Wound (2003) gave way to the harder edges of Theory of Machines (2006) and the acclaimed By the Throat (2009). In 2011 he joined forces with Brian Eno and Icelandic composer Daníel Bjarnason on Sólaris (2011), a festival commission that reimagined the score world of Tarkovsky's film. After signing with Mute Records he delivered the rhythm-heavy A U R O R A (2014), then cut The Centre Cannot Hold (2017) in Chicago with Steve Albini. Later releases include Broken Spectre (2022), Vakning (2023), Scope Neglect (2024) and Under Certain Light and Atmospheric Conditions (2025). Frost has also worked alongside Tim Hecker and Swans, and has written for contemporary dance, including the score for Wayne McGregor's 2010 piece FAR. Live, he brings an immersive, high-volume sonic experience built for listeners who want sound they can feel.
