Book Paulina Porizkova
Paulina Porizkova is a Czech-born model, author and actress who became a signature face of 1980s fashion. Born in Prostějov, Czechoslovakia, she moved to Sweden as a child and was discovered as a teenager by famed scout John Casablancas, beginning her modeling career in Paris at fifteen and quickly rising to the top of the industry. In 1984, at eighteen, she was the first woman from Central Europe to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, and she returned to the cover in 1985, becoming only the second model after Christie Brinkley to land it in back-to-back years. She graced the covers of Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar through the 1980s and 1990s, was named model of the decade by American Photo, and was listed by Harper's Bazaar among its ten most beautiful women in 1992. After moving to the United States she began acting, debuting in the drama Anna (1987) and later appearing in Arizona Dream (1993). She received the Great Immigrants Award in 2010. Also a published author, Porizkova speaks with honesty and humor about image, career and reinvention.
