Book Christopher Pissarides

Sir Christopher Pissarides is a Cypriot economist and Nobel laureate who studies how labor markets work and how technology is changing jobs. In 2010 he shared the Nobel prize in economics with Peter Diamond and Dale Mortensen for analyzing how search frictions shape markets, research that explains how workers and employers find each other and why unemployment persists. He has been on the faculty of the London School of Economics since 1976, now as Regius Professor of Economics, and also teaches European Studies as a professor in Cyprus at its national university. He chairs the Centre for Macroeconomics and in 2018 helped launch the Institute for the Future of Work, a research body in London that explores how new technologies reshape working lives. He has also advised governments, chairing the National Economy Council of Cyprus during its 2012 financial crisis and leading a committee on a long-term growth strategy for Greece in 2020. His honors include the IZA Prize in Labor Economics, the Global Economy Prize and fellowship of the British Academy, and he wrote Quantum Governance. Pissarides brings expert insight on growth, employment and the future of work.
