Myron Scholes is a Canadian-American financial economist and Nobel laureate best known as co-originator of the Black–Scholes model, the landmark framework for valuing options and other derivatives. In 1997 he and Robert C. Merton received the Nobel prize in economics for this method of pricing derivatives, work that reshaped modern finance and risk management. Scholes earned his PhD at the University of Chicago and began teaching at MIT's Sloan School of Management in 1968, where he worked alongside Fischer Black and Merton. He later held the Edward Eagle Brown Professorship of Finance at Chicago and today holds an emeritus finance chair at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Beyond academia he has served as a managing director at Salomon Brothers, board member of Dimensional Fund Advisors and Chief Investment Strategist at Janus Henderson. He co-wrote Taxes and Business Strategy: A Planning Approach and is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Scholes brings rare insight into markets, risk and investing.
