Manic Street Preachers, formed in Blackwood, Wales, in 1986, have been a trio since 1995: singer and guitarist James Dean Bradfield, bassist and lyricist Nicky Wire and drummer Sean Moore. Key figures in the Cool Cymru movement of the 1990s, they began with punk-edged releases such as "Motown Junk" and grew into a sweeping, anthemic alternative rock act. Their catalog includes Generation Terrorists (1992), Gold Against the Soul (1993), The Holy Bible (1994), Everything Must Go (1996), This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours (1998), Know Your Enemy (2001), Lifeblood (2004), Send Away the Tigers (2007), Journal for Plague Lovers (2009), Postcards From a Young Man (2010), Rewind the Film (2013), Futurology (2014), Resistance Is Futile (2018), The Ultra Vivid Lament (2021) and Critical Thinking (2025). Songs like "A Design for Life", "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next", "You Stole the Sun from My Heart" and "The Masses Against the Classes" became generational anthems. They have won eleven NME Awards, eight Q Awards, four BRIT Awards and MOJO Awards honors. They have headlined Glastonbury, Reading and V Festival, delivering passionate, literate rock with huge sing-along choruses.
