Book The Afghan Whigs
The Afghan Whigs are a rock band out of Cincinnati, Ohio, formed in late 1986 by Greg Dulli on vocals and rhythm guitar, Rick McCollum on lead guitar, John Curley on bass and Steve Earle on drums. They grew out of Dulli's earlier band, the Black Republicans, and emerged alongside grunge, changing from a garage band modeled on the Replacements into one that folded R&B and soul into its sound and image. The group released its first album, Big Top Halloween, independently in 1988, then signed to Sub Pop for Up in It in 1990 and Congregation in 1992. Gentlemen, released on Elektra Records in 1993, was their major-label debut. Black Love came out in 1996 and 1965 in 1998, and the band returned with Do to the Beast in 2014, In Spades in 2017, How Do You Burn? in 2022 and Soft Control in 2026. Ten albums in all, their catalog is driven by dark, soulful, guitar-heavy songwriting and the intense, charismatic presence of Dulli at the front of the stage.
