$250K–$500K · estimate

Deep Purple is an English hard rock band that came together in 1968 and, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, helped establish the sound of heavy metal. The classic lineup of Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord created In Rock, Fireball and Machine Head, whose song "Smoke on the Water" is built on a riff known to every guitar student, along with "Highway Star," "Child in Time" and the earlier "Hush." The live album Made in Japan is a landmark, and the 1969 Concerto for Group and Orchestra showed their ambition. Later releases include Burn, Perfect Strangers, Whoosh! and =1. Today Gillan, Paice and Glover are joined by keyboardist Don Airey and guitarist Simon McBride. Deep Purple entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, and its fiery, improvisation-driven shows continue to pack arenas and festivals around the world.
