Book Yo La Tengo
Yo La Tengo took shape in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1984 around guitarist Ira Kaplan and drummer Georgia Hubley, with bassist James McNew completing the trio since 1992. Their first LP, Ride the Tiger, came out in 1986, followed by New Wave Hot Dogs (1987) and President Yo La Tengo (1989), which built their standing with critics. The band has released 19 studio albums in all, among them Fakebook (1990), I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One (1997), And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out (2000), Popular Songs (2009), Fade (2013), There's a Riot Going On (2018) and This Stupid World (2023). Original guitarist Dave Schramm rejoined for Stuff Like That There (2015). Though most of their set is original material, they are known for a wide-ranging live repertoire of cover songs, and they have built a devoted cult following across four decades. Kaplan's guitar, Hubley's drumming and McNew's bass move between hushed, folk-tinged songs and long, noisy, feedback-driven jams.
