Book The Libertines
The Libertines led the British garage rock revival of the early 2000s, and their reunions have become major events for a generation of indie rock fans. Formed in London in 1997 around the songwriting partnership of Carl Barât and Pete Doherty, both singers and guitarists, the band was completed by bassist John Hassall and drummer Gary Powell. Their first two albums, Up the Bracket (2002) and The Libertines (2004), were produced by the Clash co-founder Mick Jones, and NME voted the self-titled record its second-best album of 2004. Songs such as "Don't Look Back into the Sun," "Time for Heroes" and "Can't Stand Me Now" made them a defining band of the era. After splitting in 2004, the group reunited to headline the Reading and Leeds Festivals in 2010, then signed with Virgin EMI in 2014 and released Anthems for Doomed Youth in 2015. Their fourth album, All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, followed in 2024. The band also opened its own hotel and studio, the Albion Rooms, in Margate. With all four longtime members still together, the Libertines continue to tour and record.
