Book Novo Amor
Novo Amor is the project of Ali John Meredith-Lacey, a Welsh singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, sound designer and producer from Llanidloes who now lives in Cardiff. His delicate falsetto and cinematic folk arrangements first drew wide notice with the 2014 EP Woodgate, NY, which followed his 2012 debut release Drift. Early singles such as "Faux" and "Alps," both with Ed Tullett, plus "Callow" and "Anchor," built a loyal audience, and his Guns N' Roses cover "Welcome to the Jungle" soundtracked an AXE/Lynx campaign. After the Bathing Beach EP in 2017, he and Tullett released the joint album Heiress (2017). His solo albums include Birthplace (2018), Cannot Be, Whatsoever (2020) and Collapse List (2024), along with Antarctican Dream Machine (2022), an instrumental record made aboard Greenpeace's Arctic Sunrise during a research expedition to Antarctica. The video for "Birthplace," built around a whale made from plastic, earned the AIM Awards prize for Independent Video of the Year. His songs have appeared in Five Feet Apart, Buckley's Chance, Elite and the game Life is Strange: True Colors. Live, he creates hushed, atmospheric shows full of layered harmonies.
