Book Rising Appalachia
Rising Appalachia is the folk collective led by sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith, two multi-instrumentalists whose sound draws on Atlanta, New Orleans and the Blue Ridge Mountains of southern Appalachia. Onstage they weave banjo, fiddle, cello, djembe, upright bass, world percussion and baritone guitar into a blend of Americana, folk, soul and global rhythms. The project began in 2005 when the sisters cut Leah and Chloe in a friend's Atlanta basement as a gift for loved ones; the warm response turned it into a full-time band. Fiercely independent from day one, they have managed and funded their own career, releasing records including Scale Down (2007), The Sails of Self (2010), the fan-funded Filthy Dirty South (2012), Soul Visions (2013), Wider Circles (2015), Leylines (2019), The Lost Mystique of Being in the Know (2021), Folk & Anchor (2024) and Trade My Troubles (2026). Known for pairing music with community and activism, Rising Appalachia has played festivals around the world, bringing rich sibling harmonies and a deeply rooted, communal live experience.
