Book Flaming Lips
Forming in Oklahoma City in 1983, The Flaming Lips have spent four decades as one of America's most inventive psychedelic rock bands. Wayne Coyne leads the group on vocals and guitar, with a current lineup that adds keyboardist Derek Brown, drummer Matt Duckworth Kirksey, multi-instrumentalist AJ Slaughter and bassist Tommy McKenzie. Coyne is the last founding member, since bassist and keyboardist Michael Ivins departed in 2021, and Steven Drozd served as co-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from 1991 to 2024. The band's discography stretches from Hear It Is in 1986 through Telepathic Surgery (1989), In a Priest Driven Ambulance (1990), Transmissions From the Satellite Heart (1993) and Clouds Taste Metallic (1995) to the experimental four-disc Zaireeka. Their label, Lovely Sorts of Death Records, is their own, and their work was shortlisted for the Shortlist Music Prize in 2002. The Flaming Lips are known for colorful, theatrical productions that turn a concert into a spectacle.
