Book Dropkick Murphys
Dropkick Murphys gave Boston two of its modern anthems: "Tessie," the 2004 tribute to the Red Sox fan club the Royal Rooters, and "I'm Shipping Up to Boston," which Martin Scorsese used in The Departed and which still rings out at ballparks and arenas. Formed in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1996, the Celtic punk band led by founding singer Ken Casey built its following through nonstop touring, first around New England and then worldwide, and started its famous tradition of St. Patrick's Day week shows in and around Boston. The band released five albums on Hellcat Records, from Do or Die (1998) through Sing Loud, Sing Proud!, Blackout and The Warrior's Code, then launched its own Born & Bred label with The Meanest of Times in 2007. Later records include Going Out in Style, Signed and Sealed in Blood, 11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory and Turn Up That Dial. This Machine Still Kills Fascists (2022) and Okemah Rising (2023) set unpublished Woody Guthrie lyrics to music, and For the People followed in 2025. Bagpipes, tin whistle and gang vocals drive shows built for crowds that sing every word.
