Book Vessels
Formed in Leeds in 2005, Vessels are an English group who began as a post-rock group and reinvented themselves as a live techno act. Early singles Yuki and Forever the Optimist (2007) earned them a BBC Radio 1 tip as a hot new band to watch and a session on Huw Stephens's show, followed by Two Words & A Gesture later that year. They traveled to Minneapolis to cut their debut, White Fields and Open Devices, at Pachyderm Studios with producer John Congleton, known for work with Explosions in the Sky and Modest Mouse, finishing ten tracks in twelve days. The single A Hundred Times In Every Direction preceded its release. Helioscope (2011), again produced by Congleton and recorded in Dallas, featured vocals from Stuart Warwick, and that June the band topped the bill on Glastonbury Festival's BBC Introducing Stage. Their third album, Dilate (2015), marked the turn to electronic dance music, and The Great Distraction followed in 2017. Vessels bring a live-band approach to techno, with real drums, layered synths and euphoric builds.
