Book Umek
UMEK is the stage name of Uroš Umek, a Slovenian techno DJ and producer and one of the pioneers of electronic music in his home country. He started DJing in 1993 at 17 and soon became known across Europe for lightning-fast mixing and high-energy sets. A prolific label founder, he helped launch Veto Records and the hard techno imprint Absense in the mid-1990s, then created Consumer Recreation and Recycled Loops in 1999, the latter co-run with Valentino Kanzyani, and the sublabel Earresistible Musick in 2001. In 2007 he founded 1605, which grew into a major techno label and remains his main home for releases. His 2006 single "Posing As Me" was a big hit in Slovenia, and his singles and remixes have also appeared on Ultra Records and Spinnin' Records. UMEK won Best Techno Artist at the 2010 Beatport Music Awards, Best Techno DJ at the 2013 EMPO Awards, Best Techno Track at the 2013 International Dance Music Awards, then Best Techno/Tech House Artist at the same awards in 2014. Since 2015 he has returned to a darker techno sound, delivering driving, peak-time club sets.
