Book Richie Hawtin
Richie Hawtin is an electronic musician and DJ with British and Canadian roots, born in Banbury, England, and raised in the Windsor, Ontario, area. He began DJing in clubs at seventeen, learned his craft from Scott "Go-Go" Gordon at Detroit's club The Shelter, and joined the second wave of Detroit techno in the early 1990s. He has been a leading figure in minimal techno since the mid-1990s and is known for his work as Plastikman and as F.U.S.E., the alias on his debut album, Dimension Intrusion, released in 1993 as part of the Warp label's Artificial Intelligence series. With John Acquaviva he started the label Plus 8, and he launched his own imprint, Minus, in 1998. He ran the weekly ENTER. party at Space in Ibiza from 2012 to 2015, and in 2016 he founded the technology company PLAYdifferently and released the MODEL 1 mixer, co-designed with Andy Rigby-Jones, and in 2019 came Computer Space (25th Anniversary Edition). Hawtin's performances are precise, hypnotic and technology-driven, blending live manipulation of tracks with stripped-down, rhythmic techno that holds dance floors for hours.
