Book Claire McCaskill

Claire McCaskill is an American attorney, politician and political analyst who represented Missouri in the United States Senate from 2007 to 2019 and became the first woman elected to the Senate from the state. A native of Rolla, Missouri, she earned her undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Missouri. Her public career began in 1982 with election to the Missouri House of Representatives, where she represented Kansas City's Brookside neighborhood through 1989. She went on to six years as the top prosecutor in Jackson County starting in 1993, then eight years as Missouri's 34th State Auditor. In 2004 she won the Democratic primary for governor, defeating the sitting governor, before narrowly losing the general election. Two years later she won her Senate seat, and she was reelected in 2012. She remains the most recent Democrat to represent Missouri in the Senate. Since February 2019 she has been a political analyst for MSNBC and NBC, and she told her own story in the memoir Plenty Ladylike (2015). A former prosecutor with a frank, funny style, McCaskill brings sharp, insider analysis of Congress, campaigns and American politics to every audience.
