Book Tom Price

Tom Price is an American physician and Republican politician who served as the 23rd U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services in 2017. An orthopedic surgeon by training with ties to Emory University, he entered public life in the Georgia State Senate, first winning his seat in 1996 and being reelected three more times, twice without opposition, and he rose to minority whip in that chamber. He served on Senate committees covering appropriations, education, health and human services, insurance and ethics. In 2004 he won election to the U.S. House of Representatives for Georgia's 6th district, the northern Atlanta suburbs, and he represented it from 2005 to 2017 across six terms. In Congress he chaired the House Committee on the Budget as well as the Republican Study Committee and the Republican Policy Committee, giving him a central role in fiscal and health policy debates. He has said frustration with government rules over the health care industry first drew him into politics. Price brings a rare combination of clinical medicine, legislative leadership and cabinet-level experience to conversations about health care, budgets and public policy.
