Book Brittany Howard
Brittany Howard is the singer, guitarist and songwriter from Athens, Alabama, who first rose to fame as the commanding lead voice of Alabama Shakes. Born in October 1988, she learned poetry and piano from her older sister Jaime, picked up guitar at 13 and met future bandmate Zac Cockrell at East Limestone High School. With Alabama Shakes she wrote and sang the songs that won the band its early acclaim, and she also played bass in the side project Thunderbitch and guitar and double bass in the trio Bermuda Triangle. In 2019 she released her first solo album, Jaime, named for her late sister. It drew seven Grammy nominations and won Best Rock Song for "Stay High". Her second solo record, What Now, followed in February 2024, and in 2025 she reunited with Alabama Shakes for a summer tour. Across her band and solo work she has earned five Grammy Awards from 18 nominations, including Best Alternative Music Album. Her voice moves easily from gospel-rooted soul to garage rock and psychedelic funk, and her live shows are famously intense.
