Alabama Shakes is a rock and soul band from Athens, Alabama, built around the powerhouse voice and guitar of Brittany Howard, with Heath Fogg on guitar and Zac Cockrell on bass. Formed in 2009, the group spent two years playing bars and clubs across the Southeast before cutting its debut, Boys & Girls, in Nashville with producer Andrija Tokic while still unsigned. Buzz online led ATO Records to release it in 2012, and the single "Hold On" picked up three Grammy nominations. The 2015 follow-up, Sound & Color, debuted atop the Billboard 200 and earned three Grammys, including Best Rock Song for "Don't Wanna Fight". A fourth Grammy came in 2018 for their take on "Killer Diller Blues" from the film The American Epic Sessions. After a long break during which Howard released solo work, the band surprised fans with a show at the Bama Theatre in Tuscaloosa in December 2024, toured again in summer 2025 and released I Must Be Dreaming, its first album in eleven years, in August 2026.
