Book Brandon Roy
Brandon Roy is an American basketball coach and former NBA standout whose smooth, clutch play earned him the nickname "the Natural" in Portland. A Seattle native, he starred at Garfield High School and then played four full seasons for the Washington Huskies before the Portland Trail Blazers landed him with the sixth pick of the 2006 NBA draft. His impact was immediate: Roy captured the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 2007 with a near-unanimous vote. Across six NBA seasons with the Trail Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves, he was chosen for the All-Star Games of 2008, 2009 and 2010 as a reserve and earned two All-NBA team selections, becoming a fan favorite in Portland. Known around the league as "B-Roy," he stepped away from the game in 2011, then came back in 2012 for a brief stint with Minnesota. Today Roy is the head coach of the boys' basketball program at his alma mater, Garfield High School. He brings a hometown-hero story, an All-Star career and a coach's perspective on leadership and resilience.
