Book Muggsy Bogues
Muggsy Bogues is an American basketball icon who, at 5 feet 3 inches, stands as the shortest player in NBA history. Over 14 NBA seasons he ran the point for four franchises, spending ten of them with the Charlotte Hornets before stops with the Washington Bullets, Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors. A gifted playmaker, he ranked in the league's top seven in assists for six straight seasons from 1989 to 1995, cracked the steals top ten three times and recorded 146 career double-doubles. He was also a surprising defender, blocking 39 shots in his career, including one against 7-footer Patrick Ewing. At Wake Forest he led the Atlantic Coast Conference in both steals and assists in 1986 to 1987, won the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award and the Arnold Palmer Award, and left as the ACC career leader in both categories; the school retired his number and inducted him into its Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He won gold with Team USA at the 1986 FIBA World Championship, appeared in Space Jam, later coached the WNBA's Charlotte Sting and entered the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.
