Book Tony Allen
Tony Allen is an American former NBA player whose relentless defense earned him the nickname "the Grindfather." Over 14 seasons, mainly with the Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies, he made the NBA All-Defensive Team six times, three of them on the first team, and he won a NBA championship with Boston in 2008. Fans and opponents alike knew him for smothering on-ball pressure that could take a star scorer out of a game. Allen came up at Chicago's Crane High School alongside future NBA guard Will Bynum, then built his game in junior college, earning Jayhawk West Freshman of the Year at Butler County Community College and leading Wabash Valley College to a 32 and 6 record. At Oklahoma State he was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in 2003, and as a senior he led the Cowboys in scoring, guided them to the 2004 NCAA Final Four and was named Big 12 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year along with Associated Press honorable mention All-America recognition. Allen became a cult hero in Memphis, where his grit defined an era of Grizzlies basketball. He shares stories of building a career on effort.
