Book Zainab Salbi
Zainab Salbi is an Iraqi American humanitarian, author, television host and podcaster who has devoted her career to women whose lives have been upended by war. While a student at George Mason University, she learned about the atrocities against women in the Bosnian war and in 1993 co-founded Women for Women International, which first supported women in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia by connecting them with sponsors in North America. She led the organization as president until 2011, expanding its reach to Iraq in 2003 and beyond. Salbi has told her own story in the memoir Between Two Worlds: Escape from Tyranny: Growing Up in the Shadow of Saddam (2005), and she documented survivors' experiences in The Other Side of War: Women's Stories of Survival & Hope. As a broadcaster she hosted the series Through Her Eyes and #MeToo, Now What?, and since 2022 she has hosted the Redefined podcast. Her latest venture, Daughters for Earth, which she co-founded, backs women-led climate solutions around the world. In 2023 she received a TIME100 Impact Award. Salbi offers audiences a powerful perspective on resilience, leadership and building movements that change lives.
