Book Walk Off The Earth
Formed in 2006 in Burlington, Ontario, the Canadian indie pop group Walk Off The Earth is celebrated for inventive music videos built around both original songs and fresh takes on pop hits. Their arrangements lean on unexpected tools such as the ukulele, the theremin and live looping, with multi-instrumentalist Gianni "Luminati" Nicassio producing the group's recordings and videos. The band broke through worldwide in early 2012 with a live version of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" (2012), played by all five members on a single guitar; the clip passed 175 million YouTube views within four months and won praise from Gotye and Kimbra themselves. That same year they recreated the one-guitar performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, signed with Columbia Records, and turned up in YouTube Rewind 2012 with an acoustic "Gangnam Style." Singer Sarah Blackwood came aboard in late 2011, and the group's cover catalog has grown to include "Rude," "Hello," "Party Rock Anthem," "Payphone" and "Roll Up," plus an appearance on the CTV series The Listener. Live, Walk Off The Earth delivers multi-instrument showmanship, tight harmonies and singalong versions of songs every audience knows.
