Book Pixies
Pixies are the Boston alternative rock band whose loud-quiet-loud dynamics and surreal songwriting shaped a generation of guitar music, cited as an influence by Nirvana, Radiohead, the Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer and Modest Mouse. Black Francis and lead guitarist Joey Santiago met as neighbors at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and in 1986 they formed the band with bassist and singer Kim Deal and drummer David Lovering. After the mini-LP Come On Pilgrim, they released Surfer Rosa (1988), home to "Where Is My Mind?" and "Gigantic," then Doolittle (1989), with "Here Comes Your Man" and "Monkey Gone to Heaven," followed by Bossanova and Trompe le Monde. In 1992 they opened for U2 on the Zoo TV Tour, and they split the following year. Their reputation kept growing, and "Where Is My Mind?" found a new audience through the closing scene of Fight Club. A 2004 reunion launched sold-out world tours, and the band returned to the studio for Indie Cindy, Head Carrier, Beneath the Eyrie and Doggerel. Bassist Emma Richardson, formerly of Band of Skulls, joined in 2024, the year the band released its ninth album, The Night the Zombies Came.
