Book Lisa Lisa

Lisa Lisa is the stage name of Lisa Velez, the New York singer who rose to fame in the 1980s as the voice and frontwoman of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Her path to the spotlight began at Funhouse, a Manhattan club for young dancers, where drummer Mike Hughes spotted her and invited her to audition for Full Force, the Brooklyn production team behind the act. She won the spot, and together with Hughes and Alex "Spanador" Moseley she formed Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam in 1985. The trio's debut single, "I Wonder If I Take You Home", first came out as an independent release before Columbia Records signed the group and reissued it, and the song climbed into the top ten of the American R&B chart. That breakthrough opened the door to a run of hit songs that carried the group through the rest of the decade and made Velez one of the recognizable voices of 1980s R&B and dance music. Discovered on a dance floor and shaped by a celebrated Brooklyn production team, Lisa Lisa brings a warm, vibrant stage presence and a catalog of hits that audiences know by heart.
