Book Larry Carlton
Larry Carlton is an American guitarist who built his reputation as a first-call studio player of the 1970s and 1980s, appearing on thousands of recording sessions with artists including Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell and Linda Ronstadt. Born in Torrance, California, he began guitar lessons at six and later joined the Crusaders, a jazz fusion group, and Fourplay, a smooth jazz band, while keeping up a long solo career. His twenty-six studio albums include Singing / Playing in 1973, Larry Carlton in 1978, Strikes Twice in 1980, Sleepwalk in 1982, Friends in 1983, Kid Gloves in 1992, Renegade Gentleman in 1993, Fingerprints in 2000, Sapphire Blue in 2003, Fire Wire in 2005 and Plays the Sound of Philadelphia in 2010. He has won Grammy Awards for best pop instrumental performance in 1981 and 1987 and for best contemporary instrumental album in 2010, with another nomination in 2008. Carlton plays with a singing, bluesy tone and graceful jazz phrasing, and his live sets showcase both his catalog and his improvisational command.
