Book Kevin Young
Kevin Young is an American track and field athlete and Olympic champion in the 400-meter hurdles. At the 1992 Barcelona Olympics he won gold in the event and, in the final, ran 46.78 seconds, setting world and Olympic records and becoming the first man ever to dip under 47 seconds. His world record stood until July 1, 2021, when Karsten Warholm finally lowered it. Young came into Barcelona unbeaten that season after taking his first national outdoor title in 1992, and he was named World Athlete of the Year for his remarkable campaign. The following year he added the world championship, winning the 400-meter hurdles at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics in 47.18 seconds. Young was known for a distinctive technique, switching between 12 and 13 strides between barriers rather than holding to the 13-stride pattern made famous by Edwin Moses. In 2006 he was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame. Young offers audiences the story of breaking a barrier no one had broken before and the focus it takes to deliver on the Olympic stage.
