Book Tara Westover
Tara Westover is a memoirist, essayist and historian whose debut book, Educated, debuted atop the New York Times bestseller rankings in 2018. Published by Penguin Random House, the memoir traces her effort to win an education and independence while breaking from a family bound by a rigid ideology and an isolated life. It became a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, PEN America's Jean Stein Book Award and two National Book Critics Circle honors, and The New York Times placed it on its list of the ten best books of 2018. The hardcover stayed on the Times list for two full years. Time included Westover in its 2019 list of the 100 most influential people, and in 2021 she received the National Humanities Medal. She spent fall 2019 in a writer-in-residence post at the Shorenstein Center at Harvard Kennedy School and returned in spring 2020 as a senior research fellow. Her essays and commentary have appeared in The New York Times and on BBC News.
