Book Junot Díaz
Junot Díaz won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, a novel that also took the National Book Critics Circle Award. Born in Santo Domingo and raised in New Jersey from age six, the Dominican American writer studied English at Rutgers and earned a MFA at Cornell before publishing his first story collection, Drown. His follow-up collection, This Is How You Lose Her (2012), extended the voice of Yunior, the narrator who runs through much of his fiction, and he has also written the picture book Islandborn (2018). Immigrant life, and the Latino immigrant experience in particular, sits at the center of his work. He received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2012, along with a Guggenheim Fellowship, the PEN/Malamud Award, an O. Henry Award, the Rome Prize and the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award. He teaches creative writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and served as fiction editor of Boston Review. In 2019 his picture book work earned him the Américas Award.
