Book Stephen Chbosky

Stephen Chbosky is an American author, screenwriter and director whose work speaks to readers and moviegoers of every generation. He first made his name with The Perks of Being a Wallflower (1999), an epistolary coming-of-age novel told through the letters of a high school freshman called Charlie, which became a lasting bestseller. Chbosky then took the story to the screen himself, writing and directing The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012). His screen career began with The Four Corners of Nowhere, an independent film he wrote, directed and acted in that screened at Sundance in 1995. Since then he has worked behind the camera on the film version of Rent (2005) and Disney's Beauty and the Beast (2017), directed the drama Wonder (2017) and directed the film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen (2021). In 2019 he turned to psychological horror with the novel Imaginary Friend, which earned a Locus Award nomination in 2020. A graduate of the screenwriting program at the University of Southern California, Chbosky brings audiences an inside view of adapting a beloved book, telling stories about young people with honesty, and moving between novels, Broadway musicals and studio films.
