Book Dave Barry
Dave Barry is an American author and humor columnist whose nationally syndicated column for the Miami Herald made millions of readers laugh from 1983 to 2005. His work earned the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1988 and the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2005. Barry has written a long shelf of humor books, parodies, comic novels and books for young readers, among them Dave Barry Turns 40 (1990), Dave Barry in Cyberspace (1996), Dave Barry's Book of Bad Songs (1997), Dave Barry Turns 50 (1998), the comic novel Big Trouble (1999) and Dave Barry's History of the Millennium (So Far) (2007). He began in 1971 as a general assignment reporter at a Pennsylvania paper, the Daily Local News, where he rose to city editor and started a weekly humor column. After a stint at the Associated Press, he spent years teaching businesspeople to write clearly at a consulting firm. A 1981 guest column in The Philadelphia Inquirer caught the eye of editor Gene Weingarten, who hired him at the Miami Herald's Sunday magazine, Tropic, in 1983. Barry brings his trademark wit to audiences.
