Book Dream Wife
Dream Wife is a London-based English-Icelandic band that mixes punk rock attitude with pop hooks and indie rock grit. Fronted by Icelandic singer Rakel Mjöll, with Alice Go on guitar and vocals, Bella Podpadec on bass and vocals, and Alex Paveley on drums, the group grew out of an art school project at Brighton University in 2014, when the founding trio set out to create a "fake girl band" and filmed the process mockumentary-style before playing their songs at a gallery show. After graduating they moved to London and turned the concept into the real thing. Their self-titled debut album, Dream Wife, arrived in 2018, followed by So When You Gonna... in 2020 and Social Lubrication in 2023. Their lyrics take on feminism, gender roles, body image and objectification, drawing on influences from Le Tigre and Sleigh Bells to Debbie Harry, David Bowie and Madonna. Dream Wife built their name on the stage: Rolling Stone singled out their 2018 Lollapalooza set as a festival highlight, and critics at BBC Music and Billboard have hailed them as an electrifying live band.
