Book Brad Mehldau

Brad Mehldau, a jazz pianist, composer and arranger from the United States, has spent three decades and more redefining what a piano trio can do. A student at The New School, he was already touring and recording before he finished, spent the mid-1990s in saxophonist Joshua Redman's quartet, and built his own trio around bassist Larry Grenadier, with drummer Jeff Ballard taking over from Jorge Rossy in 2005. His catalog reaches 29 studio albums, from Introducing Brad Mehldau (1995) and Largo (2002), which brought in electronics, to Highway Rider (2010), with its orchestral writing, and After Bach (2018). He made Metheny Mehldau (2006) with guitarist Pat Metheny, formed an electronic duo with drummer Mark Guiliana for Mehliana: Taming the Dragon (2014), and has composed song cycles for Renée Fleming, Anne Sofie von Otter and Ian Bostridge. Finding Gabriel (2019) won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, and he has 14 Grammy nominations in all. In concert he works in trio, solo and chamber settings, giving each hand its own melodic line and folding pop, rock and classical repertoire into jazz.
