Book Alonzo Mourning
Alonzo "Zo" Mourning is a Hall of Fame center whose ferocious defense made him a Miami Heat legend. At Georgetown under John Thompson he made an instant impact, leading the nation in blocked shots as a freshman. The Charlotte Hornets drafted him in 1992, and he made the NBA All-Rookie Team before being traded to Miami in 1995, where he spent most of his 15-season career. Mourning won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award in 1999 and 2000, earned All-Defensive and All-NBA honors, and received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 2002. After a remarkable comeback he capped his playing days by winning the 2006 NBA championship with the Heat, with a stint for the New Jersey Nets along the way. In 2009 he became the first Heat player to have his jersey number retired, and he has served since then as the team's vice president of player programs and development. He was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2010, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014 and the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2019. Mourning brings toughness, warmth and a powerful comeback story.
